New Zealand Wool Board Scholarship


At Creative Fibre Festival 2000 the New Zealand Wool Board Scholarship of $3,000 was announced.

The objectives of the New Zealand Wool Board Scholarship are:

1. To give a member of the Society the ability to extend their knowledge of working with wool, to help that person push the boundaries of their design skills and use of wool and wool rich fibre.

2. To promote the use of wool, and wool rich fibre.

The scholar chosen will be a person showing potential, not necessarily one who is already proficient.

The scholarship will be awarded to:

1. Help with education costs.

2. And/or help with cost of associated travel to learn from other cultures.

3. And/or help with cost of learning from an entrepreneur who is working with wool.


Application for Scholarship: the person applying for the scholarship has to

1. Be a member of Creative Fibre (NZSWWS).

2. Supply Curriculum Vitae including a portfolio of work, containing photographic prints of recent work and samples.

3. Provide a detailed plan of what her/his aims and objectives are in asking for a scholarship, how they intend to achieve these aims, and how they will measure how they have achieved these aims.

4. Show why the methods of study is important, and provide a resume of the person(s) she/he will be learning from, and why this person(s) is appropriate for teaching of the applicant.

5. Provide a list of expenses associated with the application.

6. Provide a timetable of when this scholarship will be taken up and when and where an exhibition will be held.

7. Show how she/he will promote the use of wool.

Conditions of acceptance all of which must be fulfilled:

1. The recipient must exhibit at the end of this scholarship with the Wool Board being highlighted as the sponsor of the scholarship. This exhibition to be held within a year of the completion of the scholarship.

2. The recipient must give workshops or lectures at the festival following the completion of their study.

3. An article on the recipient's study must be written for Creative Fibre magazine.

Note: The Society will assist with the preparation of the application in any way it is able.


Timetable:

Announcement for applications on the Society web site.

Announcement of applications in the June edition of Creative Fibre magazine.

Applications to be sent to the President of Creative Fibre by 18 October 2000.

Applicants to be advised by Creative Fibre of acceptance/rejection by the end of 2000.

Scholarship winner takes up the scholarship during 2001.

The awarding of the scholarship is highlighted at Creative Fibre East Coast Experience, May 2001. If possible some of the winner's application is displayed.

As soon as is practicable after completion of the scholarship a report is sent both to the executive of Creative Fibre and the Wool Board.

An article is published in the Creative Fibre magazine.

Exhibition of work to be held during 2002. This may be part of Creative Fibre Festival 2002.

Workshops or lectures to be given by the winner at Creative Fibre Festival 2002.
