The New Zealand Society of Potters (Inc) is the national body for
professional and recreational potters throughout the country. An
executive council with delegates representing ten regions
conducts the business of the society. The society's aims are:
To represent New Zealand potters on a national focus.
Mission Statement
To provide support, stimulation, and inspiration to potters and
those who share an interest in their activities and ideals.
Exhibitions
The NZSP holds an annual Convention and National Exhibition,
together with international exhibitions and regional theme
exhibitions when opportune. Ballantynes National Tableware Exhibition was held in Christchurch for the first time in 1999 and is now a biennial event.
Upcoming workshops, conventions, conferences
The New Zealand Society of Potters (NZSP) has an annual
convention and members' exhibition in varying places around
New Zealand each year.
Recent Grants
Creative NZ grant $9000 for "Tours" project 2003 to tour glaze workshops by Lawrence Ewing throughout New Zealand.
International potter tours
Limited assistance in the form of co-ordination is available to visitors who wish to offer workshops in New Zealand. Potters who are experienced tutors and have made significant contributions in ceramics should contact the Tour Coordinator, sending a CV and workshop outlines To receive assistance, at least six months notice is essential. This time is needed to get information out to affiliated groups, for them to decide if they wish to host a workshops, fit it into their timetable, inform the coordinator/visitor, advertise the workshop to their members, make the inevitable changes to details etc. Letters saying "I'm touring New Zealand in a couple of month time and I'd like to give some workshops while I'm there." , don't usually get much response. New Zealand usually shuts down between Christmas and mid-January while everyone takes off with their buckets and spades. We are awake and ready for workshops from February onwards.
