Masterworks was established in 1986 and specialises in the promotion and sale of contemporary New Zealand craft. Both galleries represent a large number of this country's major artists in glass, ceramics and jewellery.

Situated in a turn-of-the-century villa, its main exhibition area extends into a secluded planted courtyard.

Masterworks shows a varied schedule of national and international exhibitions, including solo and large group (often with a unifying theme) with simple catalogues. Both galleries offer a constantly-changing display of innovative works selected from a large stock which is uniformly excellent and extends the range of media into bronze, stone, wood, book binding and textiles.

The directors seek out work that reflects a rich mix of European tradition and Pacific influences. They are known for their discerning eye and for the high standard that the gallery maintains. They, or their knowledgeable staff (often a young artist), are always available to assist clients.
