The Future in Glass
One of the most exciting developments in the past five/ten years has been the wealth of talented young people coming through the tertiary arts courses. This has been particularly evident in both jewellery and kiln glass. Glass in particular has 'come of age' in New Zealand and is now bought and appreciated in a way that ceramics has always been. The strength of the movement in New Zealand is now based on established artists such as Ann Robinson, Garry Nash and Emma Camden in combination with work of great variety and excitement by recent graduates, many of whom are already carrying off major awards. Masterworks always has a wide selection of contemporary glass - including pieces from emerging artists. We consider the fostering and encouragement of 'younger' people to be an essential part of the gallery role. For more detail on studio glass in New Zealand see under individual artists.
