"I am looking for a REMOTE cottage, building, shed, enclosure to rent or lease somewhere in the Wairarapa. Room for me and the dog. Space to heal my body and spirit. I can live without electricity, phone and even WC if necessary. If those things were there it would be good. Near the coast would be a plus. A lease would be great. In 1995 after nearly 40 years of making wheel thrown domestic ware, John Lawrence made his first handbuilt laminated paperclay vessels. Vessels that would catapult him into a late life creative adventure that on one hand is redolent with the arcane mysteries inherited from millenia of clay workers and on the other hand blustering with ideas as modern as tomorrow.
These works are tangable evidence that in the tribe of clay workers another potter has extolled their artistry and risen to join the elite pantheon of Living masters.
