Gaffer Coloured Glass is run by two ex-glassblowers, John Croucher and John Leggott. It was established in 1993 and grew out of an art glass blowing partnership. The technical and scientific knowledge that Gaffer required to produce its range of color, grew out of a slow accumulation of data stretching over 20 years of praxis, and a large amount of copied data from Corning and Sheffield libraries. The directors take pride in the fact that this is the first studio based company in the world to have taken on the Germans and Czechs in colour production, and succeeded in establishing a growing export business.

Gaffer® Coloured Glass Ltd is a specialist glass company based in Auckland, dedicated to manufacturing the highest quality raw coloured glass stock for use by glass making professionals in the art glass market nationally and internationally. The products manufactured fall into two broad families:

Flashing Glasses. Densely coloured glass rod and chip powders for glassblowers. This family is further subdivided into transparent and opal glasses. At present Gaffer offers 50 colours in this family. All glasses are designed to be thermally compatible with each other and the typical parent glasses used by glassblowers world wide.

Casting crystal. A high lead crystal designed for the special demands of lost wax castings This is currently offered in 17 transparent colours including clear. These glasses are also designed to be thermally compatible with each other so that end users can mix them together if they wish to achieve many intermediate shades. This range is offered in both fritted and a solid ingot form. The latter is substantially bubble free.

Catalogues and price lists as well as instruction sheets are available from the above address.
