Maia - Tataihono Series
The imagery depicts the travelling/voyaging waka of our tipuna from Hawaii through the Pacific eventually landing here in Turanga (Gisborne). The challenges they faced , the knowledge they had and the understanding of the natural world, the stars, their kaiteaki (guardians).
Maia is one tipuna who settled in the region of Turanga from whom I am a descendant. The imagery is as seen from the perspective of pakeha - the sperm whale.

Untitled Brooch
This shape is formed by using a press. The main body of the brooch is silver with the entire cross being 18ct gold. This image star/flower/cross emerges frequently in my work - the brooch lends 'itself' to be all or one of these symbols.

Tuatara
This piece is made from locally prepared clays fired in a wood burning kiln. It represents our mortality.
