Clinker Built Bowl
Thrown and altered bowl designed to emulate old style boat construction techniques now rarely employed - called Capstrake in America. The clay emulates overlapping planks on ribs riveted together with copper nails and roves. Warm rich colours fired to 1300 degrees C and soaked held at that temperature for half an hour - a requirment to mature this type of glaze as it is one of the earliest types of glaze, only two materials.

Whare Tangata
This painting is about women / papatuanuku (Mother Earth) and their association with the birthing process and the nurturing and giving of life. The spiral symbolises a life force growing and flourishing. The red is based on the kokowai colour which was the red earth (papatuanuku) pigment, used as the traditional colourant on carvings, kowhaiwhai panels etc.

Ipu Waiora
Hand built, burnished and raku fired 'Ipu-Waiora'.
Waiora translates as health and well-being. Waiora is a manifestation of Mauri - the life principle or life essence, the life force which generates and upholds all of creation. 'A vessel to hold life sustaining waters.' The inclusion of the manaia reflects and reinforces the concept of Mauri.

Starfish Vessel
Having grown up a stone's throw from Wellington Harbour and now living on the East Coast of Northland I have a strong affinity with the sea and coastal environments. The strong natural patterns of wood reflect the patterns of sea, sand and the creatures therein. The "Starfish Vessel" series is evolving as nature itself evolves.
