	Gisborne List Artists Steve Gibbs Maia - Tataihono Series The imagery depicts the travelling/voyaging waka of our tipuna from Hawaii through the Pacific eventually landing here in Turanga (Gisborne). The challenges they faced , the knowledge they had and the understanding of the natural world, the stars, their kaiteaki (guardians). Maia is one tipuna who settled in the region of Turanga from whom I am a descendant. The imagery is as seen from the perspective of pakeha - the sperm whale.
